Kurwongbah State School students have the opportunity in years 5 and 6 to represent the school in a variety of sports throughout the year.
In the Winter inter-school competition, rugby league, australian rules, soccer and netball are offered to both boys and girls. In Summer, male and female students can participate in inter-school futsal, indoor cricket and oz tag competitions. These sports are played over two Fridays in terms 3 and 4. This is called a Gala Day format where students participate in 4 games per day.
Students turning 10, 11 and 12 years of age can also be selected to represent the school in swimming, cross country and athletics. Those chosen for these sports are selected on individual performances at school carnivals.
The school offers representative pathways for the following additional sports to the ones already listed: baseball, basketball, cricket, golf, hockey, rugby union, softball, tennis, touch and triathlon. Students need to have turned 11 in a calendar year to be eligible for selection. Some sports like triathlon allow 10 year old qualifiers.
